Helping build your child's future

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is a health and social care profession. Occupational therapists use a client centred approach to promote independent function in all aspects of a person's life through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.

Paediatric Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists working in paediatrics help children to develop, maintain or restore skills in the areas of self care, school work and play as these are a child's main areas of occupation.

Children may present with difficulties in one or more of the following areas:

  • Motor co-ordination skills such as riding a bike
  • Fine motor skills including handwriting
  • Independence with self care activities such as dressing
  • Visual perception skills
  • Sensory processing skills
